Doing hard things

Pastor Jennifer Garcia's Sermon honoring the 5th anniversary of the Emanuel Nine.

Resources mentioned in the Sermon-

One small step we can take today is to listen to our siblings of color. This is an incredibly difficult time for them, so they may not have the emotional energy to talk to us right now. But there are tons of black writers and directors who we can learn from.

I just ordered Stamped from the Beginning: The Definitive History of Racist Ideas in America by Ibram X. Kendi. Let’s read it together.

In honor of the Emanuel Nine, you can watch the documentary Emanuel through Amazon.

The movie Just Mercy is available for free right now on Amazon as well.

The documentary 13th about racism and the prison system is on Netflix.

If you only have a few minutes, read one of the blogs or Facebook posts that are linked in the worship email this week. If you want more recommendations, please talk to me.

This week, a compassionate, hard thing you can do is listen. Hear how people of color say white people can help. Listen, learn, and then figure out what the next compassionate hard thing is. And then do that. Don’t stop until we’ve reached the Reign of God.
